5 ¼” x 3 ¼” envelope from General George Armstrong Custer. The envelope is made out in Custer’s hand to his wife “Mrs Genl Custer - Fort Leavenworth - Kansas” and in our opinion the writing is a near perfect 10. On the upper right hand corner are two original three-cent stamps dating back to 1873. Stamped from “WASHINGTON D.C. DEC 23”. General Custer was known for his battles fought during the Civil and American Indian Wars. His first major engagement took place at the “Battle of Bull Run”. Custer is also known for the “Battle of Little Bighorn” where all of his men, himself included, were killed fighting against a coalition of Native American tribes. Also known as “Custer’s Last Stand”. The envelope is in VG-EX condition with toning and uneven tearing to the right edge from opening. Accompanied by a LOA from JSA.
