The 1928 New York Yankees posted a league-best 101-53 record, three more wins than any team in the American League and six more than the St. Louis Cardinals of the National League. The two teams met in the World Series with the Yankees sweeping the Cards in four games, winning each game by an average of 4.25 runs. It was the Yankees second consecutive Championship season and the franchise’s third title. Red-and-blue stitched OAL Ban Johnson baseball dating to 1927. The baseball features the signatures of 26 members of the World Champion 1928 New York Yankees. All of the signatures are done in black fountain ink unless otherwise noted. Notable signatures include eight Hall of Famers: Babe Ruth (sweet spot, 9+/10), Lou Gehrig (9/10), Tony Lazzeri, Earle Combs, Waite Hoyt, Leo Durocher, Herb Pennock, Stan Coveleski (green ink). Additional signatures include Gene Robertson, Myles Thomas, Pat Collins, Bob Meusel, Wilcy Moore, Joe Dugan, Benny Bengough, Johnny Grabowski, Joe Marty, Hank Johnson, Mark Koenig, Ben Paschal and Mike Gazella. Also present are the signatures of Art Fletcher (coach), Charley O’Leary (coach), “Doc” A.A. Woods (trainer), Mark Roth (traveling secretary) and Paul Krichell (scout, considered one of the greatest scouts in baseball history and credited with discovering future Baseball Hall of Famers Lou Gehrig, Hank Greenberg, Phil Rizzuto, Whitey Ford, and Tony Lazzeri). In our opinion the signatures average a 9 overall and the ball is in NM condition with some light fading to the Johnson stamp. Accompanied by a Full LOA from JSA.
