In Oakland, under the guidance of manager Tony La Russa, Eckersley became arguably one of the greatest closers in baseball history. In his 24-year career, Eckersley captured double-figure win totals 10 times, including a 20-win season, and tossing a 1977 no-hitter. He was crowned a World Series Champion in 1989, won both the AL MVP and Cy Young awards in 1992, and was the first of just two pitchers in MLB history to have both a 20-win season and a 50-save season in a career. Eckersley was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2004, his first year of eligibility. On the inner front left tail is the “Rawlings” manufacturer’s tag with wash instructions, size “44” and a flag tag reading “SET 1 1987”. Adjacent to the right is a grey strip tag with “2 87” embroidered in dark green. Across the front is “Oakland”. Adjacent below and on back is the player number “43”. All are done in green on California gold tackle twill. On the left sleeve is the official “OAKLAND A’s 1987 ALL-STAR GAME” patch embroidered in red, white, blue, black, green and California gold. On the right sleeve is “Rawlings” embroidered in green. Across the back is the player name “ECKERSLEY” in green tackle twill on a grey nameplate that has been professionally restored. The jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows appropriate use.
