Tom Seaver had one of his best seasons in 1969 with the New York Mets. Finishing the season as the NL Wins Champion (25) with a 2.21 ERA , 18 complete games and 208 strikeouts, Seaver received the NL Cy Young Award as the league's best pitcher. He finished second in NL MVP voting and helped propel the Mets to a 100-win season. New York would sweep Hank Aaron and the Braves in the NLCS and advance to the World Series to face the Baltimore Orioles. They would lose Game 1 in Baltimore, but come back to win 4 straight as the “Amazin” Mets won their first ever World Series after only 8 seasons in the league. Seaver would finish his career with 311 wins, 3,640 strikeouts, 61 shutouts and a 2.86 ERA. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1992 winning 3 Cy Young Awards, appearing in 12 All-Star games and throwing a no-hitter in 1978. Tom was also a 5-time NL Strikeout Champion, a 3-time NL Wins Champion and a 3-time NL ERA Champion. On the front left tail of the grey flannel jersey is the “Wilson” manufacturer’s tag with size “44” and wash instructions. On the inner rear collar is a grey flannel strip tag with “41-44-69 Set 1” in navy blue chain-stitching. Across the front of the jersey reads “Mets”, which replaced “New York” after being recycled to the minor leagues, in blue on orange tackle twill. Adjacent below on the left is the original player number “41” in blue felt on orange tackle twill. Across the back is the period replaced player number “41” in blue on orange tackle twill. On the left sleeve is the “Mets” disc-patch embroidered in blue, orange and white. This patch replaced the original 1969 100th Anniversary patch, with clear evidence of where it was once located, for minor league usage. It should be noted that the patch placement on the Mets home flannels were reversed for the World Series, but they remained in the same location on the road flannels, making it more than possible that this jersey was worn during the 1969 World Series. The jersey is missing the 4th, 5th and 6th buttons. The jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows outstanding use with additional wear attributed to use at the minor league level.
