Dennis Eckersley had success as a starter, but gained his greatest fame as a closer, becoming the first of only two pitchers in Major League history to have both a 20-win season and a 50-save season in a career. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2004. On the inner front left tail is the “Rawlings” manufacturer’s tag with two flag tags reading size “46” and “SET 1 1997”. Across the front reads “Cardinals” in red chain-stitch embroidery. Adjacent below and on back is the player number “43”. Across the back is the player name “ECKERSLEY” on a white nameplate. All are done in red on navy blue tackle twill. On the left sleeve is the “Cardinals CARE AND MDA LABOR DAY” patch embroidered in red, light blue, blue and white. On the right sleeve is the “Jackie Robinson 50th Anniversary” patch embroidered in red, white, blue and gold. Eckersley has signed the “4” on the back of the jersey in black marker, in our opinion the signature rates an 8. The jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and shows appropriate use.
