Curt Flood spent 15 seasons in the major leagues and is most known for being one of the pivotal figures in baseball’s labor history when he refused to accept a trade following the 1969 season. His fight brought about additional solidarity among players in their fight for free agency. He was a three-time All-Star, two-time World Series Champion with the Cardinals in 1964 and 1967, and a Gold Glove winner for seven consecutive seasons (1963–69). Offered here is the Gold Glove Award presented to Curt Flood in 1967. The award stands 16-¼” tall and prominently displays a gold-colored Rawlings outfielder glove. The three-tiered wooden base measures approximately 17-½” x 6-¾” x 6-½”. Two brass plaques are affixed to the wooden base, the lower plaque reads “OF - CURT FLOOD - 5TH AWARD - 19 THE SPORTING NEWS 67 - NATIONAL LEAGUE ALL-STAR FIELDING TEAM”, the upper plaque features a portrait of Flood in his Cardinals cap. Adjacent to the left and right of the glove are two gold-tinted Rawlings baseballs sitting inside three-pronged holders. The award is in EX-NM condition with a few small chips to the base.
