On June 22, 1937, Joe Louis won the heavyweight crown with an eight-round knockout of James J. Braddock. He successfully defended the title for 12 years, 24 times with 22 KO's. Because so few quality fighters would take him on, his title defense became known as the "bum of the month" campaign. Bob Pastor was a lightly-regarded challenger, but carried the Brown Bomber into the 11th round before his demise on September 20, 1939 at Detroit's Briggs Stadium. This fight program, with a purple-and-yellow cover, measures 8 1/4x11" and is in near-mint condition.
