The battles between Jack Dempsey and Gene Tunney were some of the most memorable bouts in the history of boxing. In their first meeting, Dempsey returned from a three year sabbatical from the sport to surprise the world with a victory over Tunney. Their second match-up was the now famous "long count fight" in which Dempsey didn't immediately return to his corner after knocking down Tunney which caused the referee to hold off count until he did. This allowed Tunney to recover with an estimated 14 second count and eventually win the fight. This Sports Illustrated Lithograph from the 1970s features these two great fighters in a classic battle. Each combatant signed the bottom of this lithograph in pencil with the signatures rating at least a 9. This lithograph, numbered 1241 of 1500, measures 16" X 20" and comes in a lacquered wood frame which measures 22" X 26". The frame shows some scuffing and dents. There is also some minor staining at the bottom right portion of the lithograph that in no way interferes with the signatures or the art work.
