In eight seasons in the Major Leagues, George Selkirk was a two-time All-Star and a five-time World Series champion. In 1939, Selkirk earned one of his All-Star appearances by batting .306 with 21 home runs and 101 RBI. In addition to his play, Selkirk is known for succeeding Babe Ruth in right field for the New York Yankees and inheriting Ruth’s legendary number three. Ruth’s number was not retired until 1948, the year he passed away. On the inside of the rear center tail is the number “39” in red chain-stitching. Inside on the rear collar fold is the player’s name, “G Selkirk" in red chain-stitching. Below is a “SPALDING” manufacturer’s tag with a size “44” flag tag attached. On the left chest is the team’s “NY” logo and on the back is the player number “3”. These are done in navy blue felt sewn directly onto the pinstripe flannel jersey. On the left sleeve is a “1839 1939 baseball Centennial” patch embroidered, which is an original replacement. There is a repair on each underarm. This jersey is in fantastic condition and displays beautifully. This jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows excellent use.
