Greg Maddux and the Atlanta Braves were two games away from winning back-to-back World Series before falling four games to two. Maddux earned the win in Game 2, only giving up six hits in eight innings but received the loss in the series-deciding Game 6. One of the best pitchers to take the mound, Maddux was a first ballot National Baseball Hall of Fame inductee in 2014. Maddux is a four-time National League Cy Young Award winner and has his No. 31 retired by the Atlanta Braves. On the front left tail is a “RUSSELL ATHLETIC” size “44” manufacturer’s tag with washing instructions. Attached below is a flag tag that reads, “100% POLYESTER”. Across the chest reads, “Atlanta” and on the back is the player number “31”. These are done in red on navy blue tackle twill. Below “Atlanta” is the team’s Tomahawk logo. Across the back reads the player name, “MADDUX” in navy blue tackle twill on a grey nameplate. Maddux signed the player number “3” in black pen and in our opinion rates a 5-6 overall. On the right sleeve an embroidered patch that reads, “1996 World Series” and below is a Russell Athletic logo embroidered. We are unclear the exact capacity this shirt was worn. It is a hobby accepted theory that Rafael Belliard requested a full set of shirts after the series from a clubhouse attendant. It is possible these were worn in the series, bench-worn or regular season stock that were patched and prepped for the World Series. This jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows appropriate use. Accompanied by an LOA from JSA.
