If the Brooklyn Dodgers needed inspiration during their drive for the pennant in 1951, they found it in Jack Dempsey, the famed "Manassas Mauler" who held the heavyweight crown in the Roaring Twenties and whose Broadway eatery was frequented by the sports and showbiz in-crowd. Dempsey added his signature on this golden-brown, slightly-scuffed toned ONL Frick ball to 23 of the ‘51 Dodgers, who must have felt like Dempsey did when Gene Tunney KO'd him after Bobby Thomson's famous home run. Signatures include manager Chuck Dressen (on the SS with Dempsey), Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Duke Snider, Gil Hodges, Carl Furillo, Pee Wee Reese, Clem Labine and Ralph Branca, who threw the fateful pitch to Thomson. Signatures are 5s and 6s.
