Carl Yastrzemski spent his entire 23-year baseball career with the Boston Red Sox and has his No. 8 retired by the club. Yastrzemski is the franchise’s all-time leader in career RBIs, runs, hits, singles, doubles, total bases and games played. He was named an All-Star 18 times, won an American League MVP and earned the hitting Triple Crown. In 1989, Yastrzemski was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame on the first ballot. On the front center tail is a “1976” year tag. Attached adjacent is a tag with washing instructions. On the inside below the rear collar is a “McAULIFFE UNIFORM CORP.” manufacturer’s tag and below is a size “42” tag. Across the chest reads, “RED SOX” and the player number “8” appears on the back. All numbering and lettering are done in red on navy blue tackle twill sewn directly onto the off-white jersey. On the left sleeve is a black armband for longtime Red Sox owner Tom Yawkey. This memorial armband was added to the left sleeve of all Red Sox jerseys after July and was worn for the remainder of the season. The Red Sox wore the Bicentennial patch for the first half of the 1976 season. This jersey is missing the Bicentennial patch with the outline still visible. There was a short window that they wore the patch and armband together, but the patch was then removed for the remainder of the second half of the season, but the black armband remained. This jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows appropriate use.
