After mostly second-division finishes throughout the 1950s, the Pittsburgh Pirates began to congeal as a team to be reckoned with as the decade came to a close. The Bucs finished a respectable fourth in ‘59, giving them a boost for their magical season of 1960 when one swing of Bill Mazeroski's bat won it all for them. There are 28 signatures from the ‘59 team on this delicately toned ONL Giles ball including manager Danny Murtagh (SS), Roberto Clemente (who signed on the other sweet spot, under the NL stamp in blue ink, rating a 6), Mazeroski, Bob Friend, Vernon Law, Bob Skinner, Smoky Burgess, Bill Virdon, Elroy Face, etc. Many of the signatures are light and rate from 5s to 7s.
