The World Series is about pomp and circumstance as much as baseball. A ballpark that plays host to a Series becomes as regal as Westminster Cathedral with the trappings of the event, most notably the waves of red, white and blue bunting that are hung from the rafters and roof. Since Yankee Stadium has hosted 37 Fall Classics, bunting seems to be the main decor of the place. This two-piece section of bunting was hung during the 1998 World Series, when their 4-game sweep of the San Diego Padres put the cherry on the team's magical, 114-win regular season and produced the second of their four world championships in the last five years. Each of the two connected pieces runs 54" inches across the top and is tied at the bottom to create the inverted triangle look. The bunting shows wear caused by the elements but displays beautifully. It comes with two field box ticket stubs from the climactic game six played on October 26, 1996, won by the Yankees 3-2, as well as a mint, plastic-protected copy of the following day's New York Post with the headline "World Champs!"on the front page and "We Win!" on the back page. This lot comes with a letter from the consignor who obtained the bunting.
