Forbes Field, the NL's first stadium built out of concrete and steel instead of wood, opened on June 30, 1909 and stood proudly for six decades as home to the Pittsburgh Pirates, its history framed by a Bucs championship that first year and a NL East title its last year, 1970. Along the way, millions of fans witnessed some unforgettable moments, including a 21-inning game in 1914, baseball's last tripleheader in 1920, and the most glorious moment of all: Bill Mazeroski's 10th inning home run over the ivy-covered leftfield wall that conquered the mighty Yankees in the roller-coaster 1960 World Series. This section of three seats from the Forbes Field grandstand are part of that history and, as such, have a special meaning for longtime Pirate fans. The wooden seats are painted dark blue, with the numbers "1", "2" and "3" stenciled in red paint on the top wooden slats. Even a cursory glance tells you how gracefully the seats have aged, the normal chipping and rusting only giving them more character and pluck.
