This beautiful sepia-toned 13" x 19" photograph of the fabled 1927 New York Yankees provides possibly the sharpest and most telling group shot of the team many regard as the best of all time. The ‘27 Yankees posted a 110-44 record and ran away with the AL pennant by 19 games, then swept away the overmatched Pittsburgh Pirates in four straight in the World Series. The centerpiece of the season was Babe Ruth's 60 home runs, but this was no one-man show. Lou Gehrig outdid Ruth in batting average (.373-.356) and RBIs (175-164), leftfielder Bob Meusel hit .337, centerfielder Earle Combs .356, and six hurlers won 10 or more games, led by Waite Hoyt's 22-7 record. The photograph, mounted in a 26 ½" x 19 1/4" frame, shows Gehrig at the far left of the back row with his famous smile, while a dour Ruth is fifth from the left hulking over everyone else and manager Miller Huggins sits in the middle of the first row, looking grim (perhaps thinking about his next run-in with the Babe). The frame and photo are both in near-mint condition.
