During the years when he dominated not only baseball but American culture, The Bambino's image graced everything from cigarette packs to cough medicines, and after his death on
August 16, 1948, Ruth would be commemorated in stone, cast-iron and bronze in statues from coast to coast, a lasting memorial for those whose lives he touched, but even ordinary citizens could have the Babe in their homes, in miniature forms of such statues. This magnificently detailed clock featuring a bust of the Babe could even make one believe time stood still for Babe Ruth. Made of wood and metal, the statuette Ruth's Yankee-capped head and torso is bronzed, with two turnable, baseball-shaped knobs on either side. One of the knobs reads "One Season, 60 Home Runs," the other "Lifetime 714 Home Runs." It stands roughly 12" x 12" and shows very little signs of wear considering its age.
