Bob “Hawk” Taylor had more than one memorable pinch-hit moments at Shea Stadium. Taylor was a member of the New York Mets in 1964, the first year of the stadium’s existence, and had the first-ever pinch-hit opportunity at Shea Stadium. Later, on August 17th, 1966, Taylor hit the first pinch-hit grand slam at the ballpark—with this offered bat—in an 8-7 win against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Adirondack manufactured “169A” model bat. The model number “169A” is engraved on the knob end and the player number “19” appears in black. The player number “19” appears to be on the barrel end, however, it is heavily faded. Length: 35”. Weight: 32 1-2 oz. Labeling period: 1964-67. There are two mounting holes on the lower handle and right above the upper handle, presumably for display purposes. On the handle are rack marks and a light pine tar coat. Taylor signed the barrel in black pen with the added inscription, “1st Grand Slam in NY Mets History Aug 17, 1966 Shea Stadium” and in our opinion, rates an 8 overall. This bat was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion, shows appropriate use. Accompanied by an LOA from JSA, PSA/DNA and a previous auction listing.
