During the 1970s, Sparky Lyle was one of AL's best relievers. Traded to the Yankees from the Red Sox, Lyle led the league in saves in 1972 and 1976. In 1977, Lyle won 13 games and saved 26, and achieved a rarity for a reliever by winning the AL Cy Young Award. This portfolio was presented to Sparky Lyle by The National Cartoonist's Society as the "No.1 Fireman of the NY Yankees and the No. 1 Athlete". The binder measures 13" x 15" and contains 22 original drawings from the top cartoonists, such as Bill Gallo, Bill Kresse, and Mort Walker. The cartoons are in black and white and in color. There is a cut mark on the bottom left corner of the binder. The drawings are in excellent condition.
