Given his incredible success managing the Yankees, Joe Torre probably doesn't enjoy looking back to his first stint managing in New York, with the Mets from 1977-81, when none of his teams finished higher than fifth. Torre might wince even more looking back at these two ads he
did for the Bonds clothing store back then, which are as much a ‘70s time piece as "Saturday Night Fever." One shows Torre clad in a stylish (for then) three piece suit and wide collars swinging a bat. The ad tells of the suit being made of 100% Klopman polyester stretch fabric "that looks as good as it feels"and lists the "easy going" price at $97. The other ad has Torre in a 3-piece pinstriped (not the Yankees kind) suit and in his Mets uniform under the heading "Bonds, Official Clothier to the N.Y. Mets." The cardboard ads measure 16 ½" x 36" and "22 x 28" and are in overall very good condition with some fraying at the edges.
