This great pin hails from Mickey Mantle's rookie season of 1951, when the "Commerce Comet" arrived in the Big Apple only to be overwhelmed by big league pitching and be sent down to the bushes. Mantle nearly quit and went home to Oklahoma until the father, Mutt, said he could be a coward and quit, or be a man and keep trying. Mantle heeded the advice, returned to the Yankees and hit a respectable .267 with 13 home runs and 65 RBIs. The 1 3/4" PM-10 pin shows a young Mantle in his Yankee cap from the torso up with his name across the bottom.. Attached to the pin is a red, white and blue ribbon, a 1 3/8" yellow bat and white ball with red seams. The piece is in very good condition with mild rusting on the back.
