A master of the split finger fastball, Elroy Face used that pitch and a few others to be one of the dominant pitchers of the National League in the 1960s. In the 1960 World Series Face saved the first three games and his team went on to win the series in seven games. This Charles J. Doyle Memorial Award was presented to Face by the Pittsburgh chapter of the BBWAA. The award was most likely based on both his performance in the 1960 Championship season and his 1959 season, when he won 19 gaems and lost only one, one of the best ever had by a relief pitcher. The award features a metal plaque mounted on a backing board. Overall measurements are 11 ½" x 15 ½" and is in excellent condition.
