Ted Williams wanted to be known as the greatest hitter who ever lived. Would anyone argue that he didn't achieve that goal? The Splendid Splinter dominated the 1940s yet was still a force in his
final season on 1950. He belted .521 home runs, batted .344, had 1,839 RBIs and won two Triple Crowns. His .406 average in 1941 may be baseball's most unreachable target. The mind boggles at what the man's numbers would have been if not for the five seasons he missed while serving in the U.S. Navy. Williams treasured his bats, which he treated with great care. And any Williams bat is among the most treasured of all sports collectibles. This Hillerich and Bradsby has the labeling period from 1943-49. Williams ordering record shows that he ordered this bat with its specifications in 1946. It is a 35", 34 oz. O1 model bat that shows good game use with a handle crack that has been professionally repaired. There is some deadwood on both the label side and rear side of the barrel.
