One of the best Brooklyn Dodgers to wear the uniform, Gil Hodges was a defensive wizard at first base winning three consecutive Gold Glove awards from 1957-59. In 1954, Hodges enjoyed his best offensive season in the major leagues setting the team record in home runs (42) and career highs in batting average (.304) and RBI’s (130). Hodges went on to win two World Series championships as a player and one as a manager. On the front left tail of this flannel jersey is the Tim McAuliffe manufacturer’s tag. Adjacent above this tag is the year “54” and adjacent below is the player name “Hodges” and “44-2” representing the jersey size and set number. These are embroidered in blue chain stitching. Across the chest reads “Dodgers” in script style writing done in blue felt. Below is the player number “14” in red felt. Across the back is also the player number “14” in blue felt. The Dodgers had three companies manufacture their jerseys in the 1954 season; Spalding, Rawlings, and McAuliffe. This jersey shows optimal use and is in outstanding condition given the above. You’d be hard pressed to find a Hodges flannel that presents this well. This jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows excellent use. Accompanied by a LOA grading the jersey an A8 as well as an additional LOA from Photo-Match.com grading the jersey a 9 making specific mention of the optimal usage and condition.
