During his illustrious 20 year career, Ernie Banks thrilled Cubs fans with his powerful bat, reliable glove and lovable smile. His 512 career home runs ranks him tied with Eddie Mathews for 13th place on the all-time list. His 47 homers in 1958 is still a record for shortstops. A two-time MVP in 1958-59, Banks will always be remembered for his phrase, "Let's play two". He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1977. This Chicago Cubs home knit coach's jersey was worn by "Mr. Cub" during the 1976 season. In the neck of the jersey is the "Wilson" label with the size "42" and below is a white label reading "14 76 1 42" in blue chain stitch. The numbers denote the player number, year, set, number and size, respectively. On the left front tail is a white patch with the year "76" in blue chain stitch. On the left breast is the Cubs red/white/blue emblem. This emblem has been restored. The player number "14" appears on the back of the jersey in light blue tackle twill. On the left sleeve is the is the Chicago Cubs centennial patch and on the right sleeve is the "National League Centennial" patch. There is an autograph on the lower right front. It shows wear and with the exception of the restored Cubs emblem, appears to have no other alterations of any kind.
