Playing not to win big bucks but to win big games, Thurman Munson's fire and courage embodied a lunchpail ethic rarely seen in the game anymore. Munson would drain every ounce out of his squatty body, and made himself into one of the best catchers of the 1970s. He compiled a lifetime .292 average, won MVP honors in ‘76 and was the anchor of the teams that won three straight pennants and two world titles. Tragically, his zest for pushing his limits cut his life short. On August 2, 1979, he died as the private plane he was flying crashed in Canton, Ohio. Munson's spirit is all over this classic Yankee warmup jacket he wore in the ‘70s. It was secured by the late Yankees equipment manager Pete Sheehy after Munson's death and given to a Milwaukee Brewers employee. The size-44 royal blue jacket has an "Aladen" label in the neck on which Munson's number "15" has been written in blue ink. The stunning jacket comes with a letter of authenticity explaining the Sheehy connection.
