During the 1980s, there was no better player than Don Mattingly. He possessed the most prolific bat in the game and was the best defensive player at his position. If not for a chronic back condition, Mattingly would have certainly challenged every offensive statistic in the record book. In the neck of the jersey is a white label with "Mattingly 83 2" done in blue chain stitch. The numbers denote the year and set respectively. On the left front tail is the "Wilson" label with the size "42". This was the number he used during his rookie season. On the left breast is the "NY" logo and on the back is the player number "46". Both the logo and the number are made of blue tackle twill. The jersey shows game use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
