Winning their fourth consecutive World Series title, the 1939 New York Yankees established themselves as one of the greatest teams of all-time. They lost only 3 games in the World Series from 1936-39. Lou Gehrig played his last game on April 30, 1939. Due to his illness, Gehrig retired with the most memorable farewell speech in baseball history. This Hillerich & Bradsby brown bat was made to commemorate the 1939 World Champions. In faded green letters it reads "World Champions 1939". There are 27 names in gold on the barrel of the bat. Names include: Gehrig, DiMaggio, Dickey, Crosetti, Combs, Henrich, Gomez, Dahlgren, Gordon, Ruffing, Rolfe, McCarthy, Keller, etc. There is an inscription on the handle of the bat which reads "To our little pal, Morton Berger A regular fellow from all the Yanks". The bat itself is in excellent condition.
