Yale University is the third oldest university in the United States and remains one of the most prestigious institutions in the country. Yale played their first baseball game against Wesleyan College in September 1865. Offered is the earliest known collegiate sweater in the hobby, with the style being confirmed to a circa 1890 Yale Baseball photo. The natural indigo dyed wool sweater showcases vintage characteristics. The iconic Yale “Y” is across the chest in white felt with a small repair on the right side The collar features six hand done grommets with reinforced backing and string intertwined. On the back is a cowl collar. The sweater shows era appropriate aging with light fading of the indigo dye and minor holes throughout but remains in incredible condition considering its age and displays magnificently. A fantastic relic that is the earliest known example to enter the market.
