Charles O. Finley gave Hunter the nickname "Catfish" in 1965 for no reason other than that he thought his new pitcher needed a flashy nickname. In 1974, he received both The Sporting News's "Pitcher of the Year" award and the American League Cy Young Award after going 25–12 with a league leading 2.49 earned run average. Catfish won five World Series Championships including three in a row with the Athletics (1972, 1973 & 1974), was an eight time All-Star and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1987. Inside the center front tail is the “McAuliffe” manufacturer’s tag. Adjacent are three additional labels, “44”, “1974” and a wash instructions label. At the left chest is the team “A’s” logo. Player number “27” appears on back. All these numbers and letters are done in white on yellow tackle twill. Player name “HUNTER” appears across the back in white tackle twill. The jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion, shows appropriate use.
