In the 1916 World Series, as a pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, Babe Ruth set the record for the longest complete game victory in World Series history. He went 14 innings, allowed only six hits, struck out four and walked only three in a 2 to 1 victory. The team he defeated was the Brooklyn Dodgers. How ironic that the team involved in his first significant career milestone would be the same team for whom he would wear his last major league uniform. After being unable to convince the New York Yankees and the Boston Braves that he was managerial material, the Babe returned to New York baseball in the 1938 baseball season and became a coach for Brooklyn's beloved Bums.In the neck of the jersey is a white felt patch with the name "Babe Ruth" in red chain stitch. Across the front of the jersey is the name "Dodgers" in their traditional script style letters and on the back is the number "35." The letters and number are made of blue felt. On the bottom of the jersey are two holes Ruth pulled straps through and tied them to neatly tuck inside his pants. On the left sleeve is the 1939 World's Fair patch, which was put on the jersey during the 1938 season. Included with the shirt are pants and socks. Inside the waistband is the name "Babe Ruth" in red chain stitch. Next to this is the "Spalding" label and adjacent is the size tag "44." The socks belonged to other players with one having the number "14" stitched in and the other with the number "26" stitched in. The uniform shows wear and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
