Maury Wills brought the stolen base back into the game of baseball. In 1960, Wills stole 50 bases, the most in the NL since Max Carey in 1923. In 1962, Wills shattered Ty Cobb's record of 96 stolen bases by swiping 104 and was named NL MVP. He led the NL in stolen bases for six straight years from 1960-65 and won two Gold Gloves as a shortstop. This Los Angeles Dodgers home flannel jersey was worn by Maury Wills during the 1971 season. In the neck of the jersey is the "Goodman" label with the size "42". On the left front tail is a white felt patch reading "Wills 42/3 Set A 1971". This has been done in blue Swiss embroidered stitch. On the right front tail is an autograph. On the inside left tail is the name "Santos" in black magic marker. Perhaps the jersey had been sent to the minors. Across the front of the jersey is the name "Dodgers" in script style letters made of blue felt. The player number "30" appears on both the left breast and on the back of the jersey. The numbers on the front are made of red felt and the numbers on the back are made of blue felt. The bottom of the shirt has been custom-cut and hemmed. The jersey shows game-use and with the exception of the custom-cut and hemmed bottom, appears to have no other alterations of any kind.
