When Ryne Sandberg finally retired in 1997, he finished his career with 1,061 RBIs and surpassed Joe Morgan's record for home runs by a second baseman with 282. In the neck of the jersey is the "Rawlings" label with the size "44" and adjacent is the flag tag reading "Set 2 1991". Below this is a gray label reading "23 91 4 44T" done in blue Swiss embroidered stitch. The numbers denote the player number, year, set number and size, respectively. The letter "T" denotes custom tapering. Across the front of the jersey is the name "Chicago" and on the back is the name "Sandberg". The letters are made of blue on white tackle twill. The player number "23" appears on both the left breast and on the back of the shirt. The numbers are made of red on blue/white tackle twill. On the left sleeve is the Cubs logo patch and on the right sleeve is the Cubs emblem. There is an autograph on the right front in blue marker that rates a 9. The jersey shows game use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
