After waiting six years to get to the show, in 1982 Wade Boggs had the highest batting average ever recorded by an American League rookie, .349. Over the next 18 years, mostly with the Red Sox, the Hall of Famer-to-be compiled a .328 average and 3,010 hits. He had seven straight 200-hit seasons and led the AL in hitting six times. The ‘85 season was his apex: a .368 average and a league record 187 singles. On the left front tail of this home knit jersey from that season is the "Wilson" label with the size "42" and below is the year tag "85" in blue chain stitch. Across the front is the name "Red Sox" and on the back is the player number "28." Both the name and number are made of red on blue tackle twill. The jersey comes with an additional certificate of authenticity.. It shows game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
