The Red Sox' entry in the sexy shortstop derby, Garciaparra began in 1997 with a .306 average, 30 home runs, 98 RBIs, and 22 steals. The magical season won him Rookie of the Year honors by unanimous vote. He may be fidgety and twitchy as a trout on dry land before every pitch, but Nomar can hit any pitch and make any play at short – his throws from deep in the hole register at 93 mph – and at only 25 he may keep the Sox knee-high for another decade. On the left lower front tail of Garciaparra's home jersey from the ‘97 season is the "Russell Athletic" label with the size "48" and below is the year tag "1997." Across the front of the jersey is the name "Red Sox" and in the back is the player number "5." Both the name and number are made of red on blue tackle twill. On the right sleeve is the "Jackie Robinson 50th" anniversary patch. The jersey shows good game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
