Willie McCovey player 22 seasons in the bigs, 18 with the Giants. During his Hall of Fame career, he won the Rookie of the Year Award, an MVP and was enshrined in Cooperstown in 1986. Willie McCovey joined the esteemed 500 home run club on June 30th, 1978 against the Atlanta Braves at Atlanta Stadium. McCovey hit a no doubter to left field off Braves pitcher Jamie Easterly in the second inning wearing the team’s orange alternate jerseys. While limited footage is available from the actual at bat, it appears that McCovey is wearing this very jersey. There is a notable inconsistency on the left side of the v-neck where the trim meets the orange knit fabric which is easily noticeable in game footage. Inside the rear neck is the Wilson manufacturer’s tag size “44” with washing instructions. On the front left tail is an orange strip tag reading “44 78” embroidered in black chain stitching. Across the chest reads “Giants” in script style writing. Adjacent below and on the back is the player number “44”. Across the back on an orange nameplate is the player name “McCOVEY”. All numbering and lettering is done in the same black on white tackle twill. The rarity of an actual 500 home run jersey can not be overstated. This jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows appropriate use. Accompanied by a Photo-Match.com LOA grading the jersey a perfect 10.
