Back when the minor leagues were a big business, the Pacific Coast League was anything but bush league. The PCL, which spawned Joe DiMaggio (who played with the San Francisco Seals), was made up of independent teams that signed their own talent and even had their own minor leagues. Among the most successful of the league's teams was the Portland Beavers, which competed from 1918-72. The privilege of being a Beaver can be gauged by the eclat of this spunky team jacket that looks more like a coat of arms. It was worn by pitcher Wilcy Moore (the nephew of the original Wilcy Moore, who played in the big leagues) during the 1958 season. It's hard to imagine any more beautiful a jacket than this hard-to–find, wine-red and royal-blue treasure. Made of wool, with leather-trimmed side pockets and red buttons up the front, it has the "Wilson" label and the size tag "42" inside the neck. A strikingly large letter "P" in blue with a white border is sewn into the left breast. The jacket is in like-new condition, with remarkably little signs of age and wear, and comes with a letter of authenticity from Moore.
