Richie Sexson extended his hitting streak to ten games in the Brewers 7-6 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. Richie took four straight balls in the first from Pat Hentgen, the Cardinals starter. Sexson's walk sent Mark Loretta to second and both scored as Jeromy Burnitz tripled to right to give the Brewers a 2-1 lead. Richie doubled to shallow left in the fifth off Hentgen driving in Geoff Jenkins with the tying run.Burnitz struck out, and Sexson was thrown out attempting to score on a single to center. Richie was safe at first on a fielding error by the third baseman in the seventh but was stranded as Burnitz popped out and Jenkins was thrown out trying to score. At this time, Sexson had 10 home runs, 36 RBI, a .319 batting average and a ten game hitting streak since coming to the Brewers in a midseason trade from the Cleveland Indians.
