Matt Mantei pitched a scoreless tenth inning in the Diamondbacks 5-1 extra inning win over the New York Mets. Matt was brought in to relieve Dan Plesac in the top of the tenth inning. Mantei got Darryl Hamilton swinging for the first out but then walked the Mets left fielder. Matt retired Derek Bell on a fly ball to left allowing the base runner to advance to second base. Mantei then got Edgardo Alfonzo to foul out to first to end the game. The Diamondbacks closed to within 2 ½ games of Western Division leading San Francisco.
