Hall of Famer Zack Wheat was a reliable line drive hitter with an amazingly accurate arm. For years there was a sign on the Ebbets Field wall reading: "Zack Wheat caught 345 flies last year; Tanglefoot fly paper caught 10 million." Wheat hit .317 over an 18-year career with the Brooklyn Dodgers and led the National League with a .335 average in 1918. Wheat's signature in blue ink rates a strong 8 despite a few small punchholes around the Z on this 1951 check, which is yellow-tinted and measures 6 1/4 x 2 3/4".
