During the 1950s, Nellie Fox established himself as the premier second baseman in the American League. He hit .300 or better six times and lead the league in hits four times. Fox still holds the records for chances and putouts in a season for a second baseman with eight and ten respectfully. In 1959, Fox was voted Most Valuable Player by the Baseball Writers Association without leading the league in one single offensive category. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1997. Pictured here is a handwritten letter from the Hall of Famer to his sweetheart, Miss Joanne Statler. He is writing from Fort McClellan where he spent a year in the military service .The letter is dated June 25, 1946, which is the year before he began his major league career with the Philadelphia A's. This is a truly unique piece of baseball memorabilia.
