This incredible correspondance was sent from then American League President William Harridge to noted umpire George Pipgras naming him umpire for the 1944 World Series which pitted the St. Louis Cardinals against their home town rivals the St. Louis Browns. In the letter Harridge informs Pipgras of his selection and asks him to keep it in strict confidence as it has yet to be announced. Harridge has signed the letter in fountain pen and his signature rates a 9. The letter shows discoloration and light wrinkles but is otherwise a tremendous display piece. Also included are official line up cards from each teams for one of the games. The cards are in excellent condition with the only wear being light discoloration as well as a light crease running horizontally thru the center. The Browns card has been signed by Hall of Fame manager Joe Sewell with his last name. The signature rates an 8. Together these pieces make for an incredible display of baseball history.
