This letter provides an incredible glance into the history and personality of the game of baseball. Written to Yankee great Bill Dickey by then Yankee President Ed Barrow during the 1940 season the letter is on American League Baseball Club stationary. In the letter Barrow discusses his displeasure with Dickey's performance at the plate during the season. He opens the letter by telling him that it is "between you and me and the lamp-post" and tells him that his catching has been good but "when you get a bat in your hands you look terrible." He offers his opinion as to why Dickey may be having these problems and tells him that a "slug of moonshine", among other things, may help. The letter is in excellent condition with only the slightest discoloration and several fold lines from having been mailed. It has been signed in black fountain pen "Ed Barrow" and his signature rates a 9.
