Roger Maris was fresh off his record-shattering, 61-home run season of 1961 when he inked a contract with the Cooper Tire & Rubber Company of Findlay, Ohio to do testimonials for the firm. His take? A thousand bucks and a set of white wall tires – a handsome bounty for the superstars of the day. The contract, dated January 9, 1962, was signed in two places by Maris in blue pen, with the signatures rating an 8. This lot of three Maris items also includes a blank restaurant check with Maris' near-perfect signature and the words, "Best Always"written in it, and a 3" x 5" black and white photo of the enigmatic slugger.
