In a tale of two goalies, goal-keepers, Rollie Melanson was just about to end his New York Islander career while Kelly Hrudey's was just getting off the ice. Melanson, the regular goalie the previous season, was traded in mid-season to the Minnesota Stars, leaving Hrudey to patrol the crease, and he propelled the team to the Patrick Division finals, and played for them until 1989. In the neck of the Melanson jersey is the "CCM" label and on the back tail is the sewn-on "CCM" patch, while Hrudey's jersey has the "Pedersons" label. On the front of the jerseys is the Islanders emblem in orange/white/blue tackle twill. On the back of the Melanson shirt is a white mesh nameplate with the name "Melanson" in blue tackle twill, while the Hrudey short has a blue mesh nameplate with the name "Hrudey" in white tackle twill. The players' numbers appear on the back of the jerseys as well as on each sleeve, with Melanson's in blue on orange tackle twill and Hrudey's in white on orange tackle twill. Both jerseys show game-use and appear to have no alterations of any kind.
