History was made in September 1972 when a team of NHL All-Stars played a series of games against the fabled Soviet National Team, barely squeaking out a victory. In 1979 the cold war continued with the three-game Challenge Cup match at Madison Square Garden between the Soviets and Team Canada (playing under the banner of the NHL All-Stars). After winning the opener, the Canadians dropped the last two games. This white helmet was worn during the Challenge Cup by Marcel Dionne of the Los Angeles Kings, who would become the third most-prolific goal scorer in NHL history with 731 goals and 1,040 assists. Dionne got 29 members of Team Canada to sign the helmet in brown magic marker, including Guy Charron, Steve Payne, Billy Smith, Ryan Walter, etc. All signatures are bright and snappy, rating 8s and 9s. The helmet has the "CCM" logo in front and the CSA "Certified Hockey Helmet" sticker on the side. Dionne's number "17" is cut from red tape on the back. Both the exterior and padded interior show the scuffing and general wear one would expect given the rigors of war on ice, but the helmet is in very good condition.
