After retiring from basketball in 1994, MJ spent the next year pursuing a childhood dream to play professional baseball. He signed a minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox of the American League, reported to spring training, and was assigned to the minor league affiliate Birmingham Barons. In the 1994 season he recorded 51 RBI and 30 SB (tied for fifth in Southern League). He led the club with 11 bases-loaded RBI and 25 RBI with runners in scoring position and two outs.
