Ozzie Smith known as "The Wizard" played shortstop a NL record 2,511 career games at the position. He won the NL Gold Glove Award for play at shortstop for 13 consecutive seasons. A 15-time All-Star, he accumulated 2,460 hits during his career, and won the NL Silver Slugger Award as the best-hitting shortstop in 1987. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame on the first ballot in 2002. On the inside front left tail is the Rawlings manufacturer’s tag size “40” with washing instructions. Attached is a flag tag reading “SET 1 1982”. Across the chest reads “Cardinals” beneath their team “Birds on a bat” logo done in red, navy blue and yellow embroidery. Adjacent below and on the back is the player number “1”. Across the back is the player name “O. SMITH” sewn directly into the jersey. These are done in red on navy blue tackle twill. On the left sleeve is a black memorial armband for Ken Boyer which has been restored. Smith signed the front of the jersey in black marker with the added inscription “1982 World Champions” and in our opinion the signature rates a 9. This jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows excellent use. Accompanied by a Full LOA from JSA and a Photo-Match.com LOA grading the jersey a 9+.
