The courageous story of Dennis Byrd is one of the most inspirational in sports. Drafted by the New York Jets in 1989, Byrd had become one of the NFL's best defensive linemen when in a 1992 game he collided with a teammate and was temporarily paralyzed with a fractured vertebra. Though few believed he'd ever recover, after a long period of rehab he was able to stand and walk again. This Jets green durene jersey was worn by Byrd in the late ‘80s. On the left front tail is the "New York Jets" exclusive label and below is the "Sand-Knit" label with the size "50." On the back is a green nameplate with the name "Byrd." The player number "90" appears on the front, back and on each shoulder. All the letters and numbers are white on black and have been ironed-on. The jersey shows game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
