Few NFL running backs were more punishing than Hall of Famer, John Riggins. A first-round pick of the New York Jets in 1971(6th overall), Riggins was named the MVP of Super Bowl XVII when he rushed for 166 yards and two touchdowns. This pair of Washington Redskins home football pants were worn by Riggins during the 1979 season. On the waist is the "Wilson"tag with the size "36". The player number "44" appears in black marker directly to the left of the tag. The off-white pants have a maroon and yellow stripe down each pant leg. The game-used pants come complete with a tie-string and belt. A pair of game-used socks accompanies this piece. The socks are red and white. The pants were acquired from a former team launderer of the Washington Redskins. A letter of authenticity from the Redskins former employee comes with the pants as does a "Game Day" program from the Redskins/Chargers game in 1983. Riggins has signed the program in black marker.
